We are sold on the expensive homogenous package-holidays that provide spoilt beaches and grim buffet food as a form of relief. Or we were told that we'd be unique and adventurous by trotting down the well-worn backpacker trail. 

But your mum armed with a guidebook went to Southeast Asia last year and the last time Billy went to Cancun he got food poisoning from the “5 star” Hotel. Perhaps it’s time to find something a little different.
