Mentalists in Plastic

Drive half the world's circumference in plastic cars… who thought this was a good idea? At first we figured it was just us here at Nomadic Nation, but as the Trabant Trek gleaned international fame we realized everyone wants to do something like this, even if it’s just vicariously.

From Germany to Cambodia through 21 countries… it took twice as long as planned, we broke down 140 times more than we expected, but we raised a pretty penny and got international coverage promoting organizations from every corner of our route that work with children.

Take a minute to find out what a Trabi actually is, watch a couple of the videos and perhaps buy a T-shirt or the book. Even better, drop a few bucks in the form of a donation to keep the spirit of Trabant Trek alive!

Day 8 - Dakhla, Morocco - Nouadibou, Mauritania

Wednesday, 6 January 2010 - 15:18

It was difficult to leave Dakhla. It was the one place we had visited thus far that we all truly enjoyed, and we would have loved to spend more time there. The decision to go to Fez and Marrakech was, in retrospect, a foolish one. There was no reason to take up days in cities that are completely accessible, as opposed to those only reached via overlanding.

Day 7 - Boujdour - Dakhla, Morocco

Sunday, 27 December 2009 - 15:42

Engrossing stuff. Jimmy's one-upper personality trait could always be counted on to excite John. Such profound philosophizing filled our long days in the car. Today looked to be especially so. We were we limping along in search of the nearest town with tires. It appeared that John and I, being his constant inhabitants, had rubbed off on Red Rover. Reflecting our shared disposition, he obstinately refused to retain the air we continually pumped into his leaking tire.
