TEAM OF ONE
A team can be made up of just about anyone. Bring your trusty guard dog if you wish, or perhaps your grandmother has always wanted to go on Safari and you can give her a lift.
Want to go but your mates are scared of lions, tigers and bears? Hop on the forum or join us on Facebook to find others who might be in the same predicament. You could also just drive off into the wild blue yonder by yourself, but what fun would that be... and who would save you from the bull elephant chasing you down the road?
Only one member needs to sign up a team. So even if you don't have the team together, reserve a space now before it sells out and worry about recruiting later.
COSTS
Who the hell wants to talk money in the middle of a Global Crisis?
"...as long as you let potential sponsors know where the money is going you could very easily get your entire Trek covered"
This is probably the question most of you are asking. The answer is: It's up to you! Eating random roadkill and sleeping in the car could save you heaps of cash, but if you want more of the high life you could end up spending a Cambodian’s yearly wages in two weeks.
The fact of the matter is that it’s your journey. You choose your route, your accommodation, your food, how much you drink, etc. How much you spend is entirely up to you... but there are just a few upfront costs.
Keep in mind that as long as you let potential sponsors know where the money is going you could very easily get your entire Trek covered.
Want to go for FREE?
We are offering a free spot for best video. What does that mean? Send us a video of your team once you sign up. The videos will be shown on the website, Nomadic Nation YouTube Channel and Facebook. The top team that has the most views and votes on the Nomadic Nation website will get their entry fee completely refunded.
Tell one, tell all to get on over to the site once your video is posted and vote to win you a free trek!
Keep in mind that if you are chosen you will still be required to raise the US$2,000 for charity.

Thought we were being generous with the video submission? We have just added yet another way to go for free. Sign up five teams and get yourself a refunded entry fee. It's as easy as drinking a pint with your mates. Just convince them to go, -it shouldn't be that hard- have them enter your registration number on their signup form and once you have five give us a holler to let us know and we'll put that US$1250 entry fee right back in your account.
Charity Fundraising
US$2000
This is by far the biggest upfront cost, but really it shouldn’t dent your wallet at all. We have plenty of hints and suggestions to help you raise funds. Use your persuasive skills to nickel and dime your family, friends, co-workers and Facebook contacts, and you'll have all the money in no time!
Entry Fee
US$1250
No small chunk of change, but then what you're getting for the money is no small amount either. Fit as many seats as you can with belts to make the cost all the cheaper, but realize you will have to rub sweaty skin with that person cramped next to you for weeks.
You probably want to know where your money is going and "organizational costs" is not an answer you want here. Click here to see what you get for your money. We are working on getting you more every day!
Visas
This is never an easy question because it depends on your route. Budget some coin for it though because it's never the cost of a gumball. Even for the suggested route it varies depending your country of origin.
The good news is that we are here ready and willing to help. If you are a US citizen we have a visa service you can use, for everyone else.... we are working on it but in the meantime can provide a few very reliable visa service companies.
At the end of the day it may be better just to get them on the road. See Visa section for more info
The Rest
1. Sleeping
Sleeping in the car or camping roadside = $0
Staying in a guesthouse = US$5-15 (most places for a double)
Five Star hotel = $????? (do you want to find out?)
2. Eating
Cooked Roadkill = $0 (with roadkill helper just a bit more)
Local Cuisine = US$1-8 (per person)
High End = US$1,000,000
3. Petrol
This really depends on what you end up driving. It could cost you less than $600 on a motorbike and around $1200 for a regular car. This is based on an average of 25mpg (18km/l) for a normal car. A diesel would be even better and there's been a rumor that African beer works just as well as petrol.
4. Getting Home
This again is something that we cannot gauge, better to wait and book as who knows when and where you'll be flying home from
MEDIA
"Being that it's the World Cup, and we find people adventurous and crazy enough to sign up for our events that are good looking and charismatic, there is a good chance you could be followed by a TV network in your country"
Being that it's the World Cup and that we find that people adventurous and crazy enough to sign up for our events good looking and charismatic there is a good chance you could be followed by a TV network in your country. The video submissions that could potentially waive your entry fee will also be used to entice networks to follow your team... meaning the whole Trek could cost you nothing..
Don't want to be on TV? We don't blame you, we're pretty camera shy ourselves. Just let us know if you submit a video that you would rather it not be considered for submission to the networks.
You can obviously film your trek for your own personal use. However, if you want to make a commercial documentary or series let us know as media rights are controlled by Nomadic Nation. If you have ideas or potential media interest please get in touch. If it works out it can even help to reduce your entry fee or pay for it all together.
VISAS
Details, details. Unfortunately countries do often times require these pesky little passport inserts to enter into their country.
There are a few options:
On the Road
This is by far the best option. It can potentially save you lots of money and only cost you a bit of time. Just make sure you have loads of passport photos.
This option would require you to stop along the way at embassies for countries you'll be traveling through and getting visas there. This is yet another reason we are embarking on the test run, to bring you all the intricate details you will need.
Snail Mail
If you don't live in a capital or anywhere near the relevant countries’ embassies, don't worry. You can always drop your darling little passports in an envelope with a stamp and send away for a visa. The time varies from embassy to embassy. If you have any problems locating embassies drop us a line and we'd be happy to help out.
Visa Services
Want to not worry about it at all? Then a visa service is probably your best option. There are multitudes in every country that can take care of it for you, though they tend to be a little pricey. We can help you find the best one.
Nomadic Nation is now offering a cheap alternative for the US. We hope to extend this service to Europe and the rest of the world soon.
FUNDRAISING
It's not really that much is it...
Be innovative, US$2,000 is not much to raise, especially if you have several people in your team. Friends, family and local businesses will want to sponsor you; small gigs or bar fundraisers tend to work quite well too. We have loads of fundraising techniques to help you through the process, once you get your slot don’t hesitate to send us questions.
All the fundraising will go through Firstgiving or Justgiving so that we, and everyone else, can see your results.
Getting it sponsored
Use your wits and power of persuasion to get your trek sponsored. Many business have a certain amount set aside for such purposes and if you do it right you might be able to pinch a penny or two out of them. Promise to wear clothes with their logo, use their gear, put them up on your personal WCT page, mention them in press articles, slap their logo on your car or roof rack... basically anything outside of your first born.
DISCLAIMER
Please don't be confused this is NOT a package holiday. There are risks and there is only limited support. We joke about cheetahs, elephants and other risks along the way - but these should be taken seriously. These Treks certainly have their risks but we believe that the benefits definitely outweigh the risks. Plus, what truly epic adventure comes with a safety net? So just remember this is YOUR adventure, YOU get yourself into the shit and YOU get yourself out.
Safety in numbers is a rule not to be taken lightly. Find teams to caravan with, keep those CB radios tuned into your fellow teams. This will help with pulling each other out of the mud or even just changing a flat.
